Blake's 7 - #0

So, yes, the new strand on this blog, which if all goes to plan will last the whole of 2024, and no longer is a Blake’s 7 watch/re-watch. I say “watch/re-warch” as I know for sure I definitely haven’t seen every single episode. Back when it was first screen, I definitely saw some of it, but don’t remember anything about it. Then, in the 90s, BBC2 started a repeat run of what was meant to be the whole series, but they only managed the first season. I also saw a handful of episodes from through the run a while back when ForcesTV did their repeat run, but as it was stripped an episode a day across five days a week (there may have been weekend repeats as well?) I only caught some.

But for those of you who are saying “wait until you see how it ends…” Oh, I know how it ends. I have that last shot of Avon, smiling, etched in to my mind. I don’t know how many of the characters who don’t make it as far as the final episode leave the show, though; so I have many surprises to come. Though I have it in my head that some just leave, between seasons, with scant explanation; kind of like Grange Hill where at the start of a new year you’d get lines like “yeah, it’s a shame Dave’s family moved to Inverness ‘cos his dad got a new job” to explain a character’s absence.

The plan with this blog is to watch an episode a week, then write down my thoughts about each episode, things I liked and disliked, and notable guest stars, and any kind of thing that springs to mind.

Then after I’ve done this, I’ll take a listed to the edition of the Maximum Power podcast that corresponds to the episode I’ve just watched. I’m quite sure they’ll spot all sorts of things I missed.

Now, if timing of this is right, both this blog and that podcast should get to episode 52, Blake, at about the same time. Though I do rather guarantee that if one is later than the other, it’ll be me that runs late.

I do rather need a proper title for this blog strand, though. I am conscious that the main strand here is already called “Seven Days” (as it mostly covers the last seven days of stuff. Mostly) and this is another strand relating to something seven linked. I mean, what’s next? A strand where I go back and look at every time Len Goodman gave someone a “SEVEN!” in Strictly? A strand where I watch every episode the seventh Doctor Who, Sylvester McCoy appears? (Actually, that might be quite good…) A strand where I discuss the character Seven of Nine, from Star Trek? Oh, the possibilities…
